Type CSS thermostats are single-pole thermostats that respond to temperature, have a make contact element in a ceramic housing, and are equipped with a heating resistor that can be triggered from the outside. One side this heating resistor is connected inside the thermostat to a contact on the make contact element, while the second heating resistor connection is fed outside via a separate connection table. CSS thermostats operate on the bimetal snap disc, the contact system (make contact element) is activated via a ceramic tappet. The thermostat can be heated by thermal coupling to a heat source or by the internal heating resistor or by a combination of both. Type CSS thermostats are therefore e.g. also suitable for closing a contact with a time delay and to open it again depending on the ambient temperature. Currents up to 16 A can be switched on and off via the make contact element. The functioning temperatures and the resistor can be varied within a wide range; however this can not be adjusted by the user.
